What is an HRA?
A Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) is an employer-funded benefit that helps employees pay for out-of-pocket medical expenses and, in some cases, health insurance premiums. Unlike HSAs or FSAs, the funds are not deducted from employee paychecks. HRAs are highly customizable, allowing employers to define what expenses are eligible and whether unused funds can roll over year to year. Since HRAs are not portable, the funds typically remain with the employer if an employee leaves the company.
